Residential electrical

Residential electricians for Grand Rapids homes

From a single stubborn outlet to a full rewire, we do home electrical the way it should be done — safe, tidy, labeled, and inspection-ready. Here’s what we handle.

Older homes in Heritage Hill and East Grand Rapids, newer builds in Caledonia and Byron Center, and everything between — we’ve wired them. Every job starts with straight pricing — a written quote for projects, hourly with the rate explained for service calls — and work that’s built to last, not just to look finished on day one.

Panel upgrades & replacements

Swapping an old fuse box or undersized 60–100 amp panel for a modern 200-amp service — properly labeled, grounded, and permitted. The backbone of a safe home.

When you need this

  • You still have a fuse box, or a Federal Pacific / Zinsco panel
  • Breakers trip when the microwave and space heater run together
  • You’re adding a hot tub, EV charger, addition, or A/C
  • Insurance or a home sale flagged the electrical service

Whole-home rewiring & knob-and-tube

Replacing brittle, ungrounded, or knob-and-tube wiring common in older Grand Rapids neighborhoods — done room by room with minimal wall damage and a plan for patching.

When you need this

  • You own a pre-1960s home with cloth or knob-and-tube wiring
  • Two-prong outlets with no ground throughout the house
  • Lights dim, buzz, or flicker when appliances kick on
  • You’re remodeling and the walls are already open

Outlets, switches & dedicated circuits

Adding, moving, or replacing outlets and switches — including GFCI/AFCI protection, USB outlets, and dedicated circuits for the appliances that keep tripping the shared one.

When you need this

  • An outlet is warm, discolored, sparks, or won’t hold a plug
  • You need GFCI protection in kitchens, baths, garage, or outdoors
  • The space heater or window A/C keeps popping the breaker
  • You want outlets where the furniture actually is

Lighting & ceiling fans

Recessed cans, under-cabinet lighting, dimmers, ceiling fans, and fixture swaps — wired cleanly and switched the way you actually live in the room.

When you need this

  • A room is gloomy and you want recessed or layered lighting
  • You’re hanging a fan or heavy fixture on an old box
  • Switches are in the wrong spot or don’t control the right lights
  • Kitchen or bath refresh that needs new lighting

Generator hookups & transfer switches

Safe, code-compliant hookups for portable and standby generators with a proper transfer switch or interlock — so a West Michigan ice storm doesn’t empty your fridge.

When you need this

  • You bought a generator and need it wired in safely
  • You’re tired of running extension cords through a window
  • You want a standby generator sized and installed
  • Backfeeding worries you (it should — a transfer switch fixes it)

Code corrections & inspections

Fixing the write-ups from a home inspection or municipal inspector, and getting older work back up to current code — documented and ready for re-inspection.

When you need this

  • A home inspection turned up electrical items before closing
  • A previous owner’s DIY wiring needs to be made right
  • You failed an inspection and need it corrected and signed off
  • You just want a licensed set of eyes on questionable work

Basement, garage & addition wiring

Full circuits, lighting, and outlets for finished basements, detached garages, workshops, and additions — planned around how you’ll use the space.

When you need this

  • You’re finishing a basement or bonus room
  • A detached garage or shop needs power, lights, and outlets
  • An addition needs its own circuits and possibly a subpanel
  • You want workshop-grade 240V circuits for tools

Hot tub & appliance circuits

Dedicated, correctly-sized circuits for hot tubs, ranges, dryers, EV chargers, well pumps, and other heavy loads — with the right breaker, wire gauge, and disconnect.

When you need this

  • A new hot tub or spa needs a GFCI-protected circuit
  • You’re replacing a gas range or dryer with electric
  • An EV charger needs a 240V circuit from the panel
  • A heavy appliance keeps tripping a shared circuit

Questions we hear a lot

How much does a panel upgrade cost in the Grand Rapids area?

It depends on your current service, the panel location, and whether the utility drop or meter needs work — but we give you a firm, written quote before any work starts. No guessing, no surprise charges at the end.

Will you pull the permit and handle inspection?

Yes. For work that requires a permit we pull it, schedule the municipal inspection, and make sure everything is labeled and accessible so it passes cleanly.

Do I need to be home for the work?

For the initial walkthrough it helps so we can talk through options. For the work itself we’ll coordinate access — many jobs don’t require you to be there the whole time.
